Digital, exhibition 2019
For the Loài Plastic exhibition in Saigon, I was invited to contribute by designing two 3D monsters that symbolized the overwhelming presence of plastic waste in our environment. My goal was to create characters that captured both the playful and menacing aspects of the issue, using colorful plastic waste to bring these creatures to life. One of these 3D illustrations, which was featured on the main exhibition poster, became the exhibition’s official mascot. These designs represented how plastic, once seen as harmless, has now become an invasive species in our world. My work was later published in Gam 7, a Vietnamese design magazine, further highlighting the environmental message behind the project.
The exhibition
The Loài Plastic exhibition attracted thousands of visitors, with the plastic monsters becoming a central highlight. One of the monsters was transformed into a massive papier-mâché sculpture, standing as the centerpiece of the exhibition. Visitors were also able to experience my 3D monster in virtual reality, exploring its details and textures in an immersive digital environment. A miniature paper version of the monster was crafted, offering attendees a tangible representation of the character. Together, these components emphasized the exhibition’s call to action, using creative and interactive means to engage audiences with the issue of plastic pollution.
